INFORMATION | Suction Safety
X[[`k`feXc`e]f
The suction cover is one of the most important components of the whirlpool/spa system. This inlet to the pump
provides all of the water to operate the hydrotherapy jets. The suction assembly must be properly installed to be safe
from body and hair entrapment as per the applicable standard ASME/ANSI A112.19.7M or UL 1563 and ANSI/NSPI-
6 and any other applicable codes and standards.
Suction Safety
Installation Instructions for Standard Suction Components
CAUTION: The flow rate of your whirlpool/spa system should never
exceed the rating engraved on the cover of the suction.
WARNING: G/G Industries’ covers (plastic and/or metal) must only be
mounted to G/G Industries’ wall fittings.
1. Before installing a Suction Fitting, the site should be considered carefully to minimize any possibility of body or hair entrap-
ment. Suctions should be installed in a whirlpool as low as possible, and lower than the intake port of the pump for maximum
drainage. A 2 3/8” hole is recommended for the Wall Fitting.
2. Put the Suction Gasket Part #30115/30193 on the back of the Standar
d Suction Wall Fitting Part #30147 or Low Profile Suction
Wall Fitting Part #30139 so that the smooth part of the gasket contacts the back of the Wall Fitting and the ribbed side of side
of the gasket faces the tub shell. (Please note that we strongly recommend the use of a gasket, however, a wide silicone bead
on the back of the Wall Fitting may be substituted).
3. Put a circular bead of silicone on the threads of the Suction Wall Fitting Part #30147/30139. Insert the Wall Fitting through the
hole in the side of the tub. From the outside of the tub, thread the Suction Nut or Adapter completely onto the Wall Fitting.
4. Clean excess silicone from the outside diameter of the Suction Nut or Adapter.
5. Install the Suction Cover Part #30133/30191 with the blank side facing down. Line up the screw hole in the Suction Cover with
the holes in the Wall Fitting and secure the Cover in place using the screws provided. (Do not over-tighten).
6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 if installing multiple Suction Fittings. If installing multiple Suction Fittings in a spa, insure the instal-
lation conforms to ANSI/NSPI-6 and/or any other applicable codes or standards. For whirlpool tubs, a minimum separation of
12” on center is recommended.
7. Use PVC pipe to connect the Elbow and/or Tee to the Pump Union.
8. Make sure there is a straight run of pipe, without sag, from the Pump to the last Suction to maximize drainage and minimize
water retention in the piping.
WARNING: Suction Wall Fitting Part #s 30147 and 30139 are molded from ABS plastic. If you use the Nut and intend to cement
1 1/2” PVC pipe or PVC fitting directly into the back of the Wall Fitting, an ABS/PVC cement should be utilized.
DO NOT USE PVC PIPE PRIMER as cracking of the ABS may result.
